Sunday’s top of the table clash in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 34 between table toppers Plateau United FC and second placed Lagos-based MFM will be a decider.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the clash off the titans between both teams locked in a race to win the 2106/2017 NPFL will be fought and decided at the Rwang Pang Stadium, Jos on Sunday.
Previous clashes between both team has seen the Jos-based side, Plateau United or “Peace Boys’’ as they are fondly called by their fans with upper hand.
Last season, the Olukoya Boys played 1-1 against the Peace Boys in Jos, while they lost 0-1at home.
In the 2016/2017 season, MFM won 2-1 in Agege; they will now wait for the result in Jos to know if the league crown now in between both clubs will go to the wire.
Plateau United currently sits on the summit of the table with 58 points, three adrift their league crown rivals MFM which has 55 points.
Any loss for the Plateau United will see MFM draw level with them on point which makes 58 points for both team, however, this may be a boost for MFM aspiration of lifting the league crown.
For Plateau United, they will be hoping to make history in returning the league shield back to the city of Jos after 45 years of exile.
It will be recalled that Jos-based Mighty Jets won the maiden edition of the league that was played among the six teams in 1972.
MFM will also be seeking to put their name on the list of Lagos-based league winners which was last won by Julius Berger in 2000, exactly 17 years ago.
Notable clubs such as Stationery Stores and Julius Berger have both won the league for the passionate Lagos fans. While Berger won it twice, 1991 and 2000, Stores won it in 1992.
